We know that lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people are at greater risk for some cancers and less likely to access necessary and appropriate diagnostic and treatment resources.
- Lesbians receive less frequent gynecologic care than do heterosexual women and therefore might be at greater risk for morbidity and mortality from gynecologic cancers.
- Evidence increasingly suggests that gay men are at elevated risk for anal cancer.
- For transgender and intersex folk disparities in access to competent care are striking.
In this two day event we will put a personal face on cancer in our communities, confront our unique obstacles to care, look at the promising science emerging to prevent some cancers, and talk with each other about what strategic steps are needed to move forward in this fight.
Co-sponsors making this dialog possible include the American Cancer Society, the California Breast Cancer Research Program, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association, the Lesbian Health Research Center, the Mount Zion Health Fund, the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center, the UCSF Department of Urology, San Francisco Department of Public Health and the Women’s Cancer Resource Center.
Everyone is invited to be a part of this exciting conversation.
